Cititour Review:

You don't have to be a fan of "Forrest Gump" to eat here.  But you will have to brush up on your "Gump" trivia.  More on that in a moment.

First to the place itself.  One word - huge.   This sprawling restaurant on the second floor in Times Squares takes over a good chuck of the block, yet still maintains a honky tonk vibe with its wooden booths and tables that resemble a fish shack.  It's done very well and there's plenty of Forrest Gump paraphernalia to go around, including the dress worn by the very young "Jenny" when she shouted, "Run, Forrest run".

And unlike some other chain restaurants, this one seems to get it right, starting with the drinks.  There are fruit smoothies and quenchers, or something a bit stronger like the "Blue Louisiana Lemonade" made with Stoli Blueberi vodka, lemonade and fresh berries.  It was quite refreshing and packs a punch (You also get a free glass when you leave which is a very nice touch.).  There's also the "Big Easy" punched up with Southern Comfort, Dekuyper peach, orange juice and cranberry.

Appetizers include southern specialties like Cajun shrimp, BBQ pork sliders and hush puppies.  But shrimps really steal the show, whether deep fried, grilled or steamed.   "Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp" were plump and served with a Cajun marmalade, while "Mama Blue's Southern Charmed" fried shrimps were plentiful and served with a heaping helping of delightfully crisp french fries.  There's also grilled catfish and sauteed red snapper on the menu, along with baby back ribs and a sirloin steak.  For dessert; key lime pie and Mama's cinnamon bread pudding.

Yes, the place is touristy.

Yes, there are lots of yapping kids.

But ya know what, it didn't seem phony.  Forrest would be proud.
As for the trivia, let's just say you'll need to watch the movie before you go.
