Cititour Review:

Cafeteria stays true to its name by remaining the spot where everyone hangs out. Much like a real cafeteria, the place is always packed, turning tables many times over in its 24 hours of operation. Its clean, white lines and notoriously hip Chelsea location keep the customers pleased and coming back for more of its scene-y vibe and comfort food.

Though the joint serves food at all hours of the day, we stopped in for dinner and drinks.  I was  pleased to find the typical basket of bread replaced by mac and cheese.  Choices include cheddar and fontina ($9), smoked gouda and bacon ($10), and truffle oil ($12). As these noodles are the famous dish of Cafeteria, my date and I decided to delved into all three ($14). The macaroni and cheese with truffle oil was the most delicious, with its creamy, cheesy, taste and rich truffle oil. I could have stopped my meal here and been satisfied.

Cafeteria creates delicious comfort foods at reasonable prices. I love the rustic burrata salad with pesto ($13). The sweet tomatoes and crunchy black sea salt make for a perfect marriage.  The menu also offers a nice selection of burgers. The ones that really caught my fancy were the salmon BLT ‘burger’ ($15) and the veggie ‘burger’ ($11). The veggie is 100% vegan but you would hardly know it.  Roasted garlic hummus gives it a nice kick of flavor. I had enough to bring home.  The comfort continues with dishes like BBQ pulled pork sliders ($10), chicken and waffles ($18), and beer battered fish-and-chips ($18.) Brunch serves all day, so feel free to try some great breakfast options like the zesty lemon ricotta pancakes ($11). Classic soul and comfort items like biscuits and gravy ($11) and shrimp and grits ($13) are also offered.

Drinks are another specialty at Cafeteria.  Liquid Passion, made with champagne and passion fruit juice is super sweet. The Spiced Pear, Hibiscus and Ginger, and Inferno Bloody Mary are also worth a taste.

Cafeteria is full of good food, good service, and lots of people.  Out of all of the tasty spots to choose from in Chelsea, Cafeteria really brings home the bacon.
