Cititour Review:

This joint could be the hottest new spot in town.  Even on a Wednesday night it was packed out!  I got a table and very fast, friendly service right away, even though it was filled to capacity.  The restaurant originated as a taco truck and, for now, the location on Bedford Ave. and Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint offers a sampling of appetizers, tacos, burritos, quesadillas and tortas, along with daily specials like mole chicken and red snapper ceviche.

Although the tacos were pretty ordinary (they come with your choice of meat filling or vegan meat,) I was floored by the pork chop with mango and butternut sauce, which was a special that night ($15).  It was—without question—the best thing I have eaten in months, and that’s saying something!  The blend of flavors was succulent and unique, the texture was perfect, and it was exactly the right amount of food.  Kudos to the chef for creating such a perfect meal.  If it is ever on the menu again, be sure to order it.  I even ordered a second helping to take home!

To me, this place is a classier version of ‘Papacitos,’ the other hot Mexican spot in Greenpoint.  I like having a fancier Mexican restaurant with interesting specials to choose from.  The environment is really nice, too.  I liked the modern decorations and cleanliness of the place, though the music was so loud I could barely hear my date talking. They also have a full bar, featuring delicious margaritas, micheladas (beer mixed with tomato juice, lime juice and assorted sauces), and their own beer made exclusively for Calexico by Sixpoint Craft Ales.  No reservations are taken, and for now they are only open for dinner, but their lunch and a late night bar menu are coming soon.  I am glad to have this place in the neighborhood and eager to see what they cook up next!
