The Meatpacking District has a new flavor, a seafood spot appropriately named Catch. Enter through a very unassuming doorway, only identifiable by a lone doorman. After a quick elevator ride to the second floor, you’ve found yourself in paradise. The room is sexy, well-lit and packed with people, along with a very ‘happening’ vibe.

There are plenty of delicious drinks to drown in here, but all else is forgotten as soon as you taste the Hellfire sushi roll ($14). I enjoy sushi a lot, and it is rare to find a roll with the perfect combination of flavors and freshness. The tuna in this sushi is absolutely delicious. We filled the table with the usual suspects; rock shrimp ($18) and tuna tartare ($15) with wasabi on crispy rice. Though the dishes may be common, the quality is unparalleled. Each shrimp was so tender and plump. The quality of the seafood here is highly impressive. The only non-seafood appetizer we enjoyed was a basket delicious pretzel bread served with honey butter that was gone in a flash. 

Prices here are nothing to be excited about. The main lobster dish, a 2-pounder served Cantonese style, carries a price tag of $78.  Add another $35 for slices of strip steak and you've got "Surf 'n Turf." However, the crowd here most likely pays little mind to cost. Be prepared to spend a little cash, unless you are fortunate enough to enjoy a comp’d meal. For the main event we had to order another Hellfire roll. We also tried the scallops and cauliflower ($32) which was cooked to perfection. The wine kept flowing and we became more than satisfied. We had absolutely no room for dessert.

Due to its location, directly across from Hotel Gansevoort, and the popular nightclub connoisseurs running the restaurant, Catch has an excellent chance of survival in a city where competition is fierce. The EMM Group, owners of Tenjune, Simian Lounge, and Abe and Arthur’s, can add another success to their repertoire. However, the phenomenal quality of the seafood at Catch can stand on its own.  You'll be hooked!
