Cititour Review:

Should you get dirty with the Dirty Bird? Here's our assessment of this tribute to poultry. Let me start out by saying I've been a big fan of Peruvian-style chicken ever since Pio Pio set up shop on Woodhaven Boulevard in Queens. It set the bar for flavorful rotisserie chicken, and Dirty Bird comes close, even though the flavors are toned down a bit. Still, the meat during our visit was especially juicy and properly cooked. Dirty Bird uses only free-range chickens and other organic ingredients. The goal is healthier fast-food. Up next, buttermilk-dipped fried chicken. Again, the meat was tender as could be and the coating remained crisp until we got it home. The crust is a little sweet for my liking, but we still managed to scoff it down in no time. Sides are a bit limited. Slow roasted potatoes taste like the ones mom used to make. The dirty rice arrived properly spiced and the napa cabbage cole slaw was fresh but bland. As for the shallot cornbread, please feed me more. It's thin, almost like polenta, and dangerously addictive. Dirty Bird may need a little fine-tuning, but overall we left satisfied and ready for more. Maybe next time we'll try the bad-ass cookies.
