It’s not often that a noodle shop wins instant praise, but Hao Noodle is an exception. Maybe it’s the space itself, adding a bit of elegance to the neighborhood, but not too much as to turn off the locals looking for a casual meal. Marble tabletops with leather-backed chairs, an open kitchen and a formal dining room softened by flickering candles and live flowers adding to the vibe. There is a lot to like about Hao Noodle even before the first bite. The restaurant specializes in Shanghai cuisine with dishes that deliver plenty of heat. Dan Dan Noodles are made with 10 ingredients including Szechuan peppercorns, crushed peanuts, pickled vegetables and minced pork. Dig deep to sop up all of the goodness. Other noodle dishes bring chili oil mingling with dried shrimp or a Shanghai favorite, tender yellow croaker in a milky white broth. Dim Sum, including shrimp and pork wontons, are available along with tomato rice soup, spicy beef with dried orange peel, and sweet & sour ribs with honey, sesame and Chinese vinegar. The adventure continues with desserts like black sesame rice balls in a red bean soup.
