La Pecora Bianca, which means "the white sheep," is a Flatiron favorite with a line out the door most days. The Italian cafe makes all of its pastas in house using organic flours, and meats supplied from the Hudson Valley. The restaurant offers 125 different wines, including its own private label, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast brings frittate with mixed greens; scrambled eggs accompanied by roasted vegetables and bacon; and pancakes made with sheep's milk ricotta and served with fresh berries. For lunch, you will find an assortment of antipasti, including crostino with a white bean puree and pork sausage, several types of salads and panini sandwiches. A burger made from grass-fed short rib and brisket sits atop house-made brioche with caramelized onions and Fontina. You can also select from a handful of different pastas, and a grilled hanger steak with charred broccolini. Dinner starts with things like braised artichoke with anchovy powder, crispy octopus with pickled shallots, and roasted cauliflower with mascarpone. Pasta dishes range from vegetarian lasagna with wild mushrooms to whole wheat spaghetti with pomodoro sauce, and seasonal risotto with Maine lobster. Roasted chicken, seared scallops and braised heritage pork shoulder are counted among the main courses. An outdoor dining area is great for people-watching, weather permitted, and brunch is available on weekends. Mangia! - Thomas Rafael
