CIAO, MIDTOWN!
Restaurateur Mark Barak's La Pecora Bianca is now open for dinner in Midtown. Nearly twice the size of its sister NoMad restaurant, the new LPB offers a vibrant Italian dining experience in a sophisticated setting on the corner of Second Avenue and 50th Street.

HOUSE-MADE
Executive chef Cruz Goler, who worked as chef de cuisine for Michelin-starred chefs such as Mario Batali and Jean-Georges Vongerichten, takes Italian fare back to its roots as an inherently local and seasonal cuisine. Vegetables and house-made pastas are the focus of the menu, which offers classic La Pecora Bianca dishes such as gramigna with sausage and broccolini and tagliatelle with beef and pork bolognese. To start, guests can enjoy snacks, or “spuntini,” like crispy prosci utto bomboloni, and shareable plates such as burrata with roasted apples and salsa verde (pictured above). For dessert, an entire table of guests can share a show-stopping, multi-layered tiramisu, spiked with amaro.

APERITIVO
Complementing the menu is an all-Italian wine list featuring a wide selection of wines by the glass and quartino and La Pecora Bianca's private label Tuscan rosé, La Pecora Rosa. An assortment of negronis and spritzes, including an autumnal version made with fizzy lambrusco, are at the heart of Aperitivo Hour served daily in the restaurant's 45-seat enoteca.

TAKEAWAY
True to the spirit of Italian bars, the restaurant's enoteca will soon start each day as a café with a street-facing to-go window, serving an expanded selection of takeaway offerings, from morning pastries, panini and salads to gelato and Lavazza espresso drinks.

THE LOOK
Balthazar architect Richard Lewis and interior designer Chiara deRege conceived the bright, airy design. White millwork, pale oak chevron floors and brass accent the space, illuminated by natural light from windows that open onto Second Avenue. In the main dining room, a mid-century Italian lighting scheme — anchored by an impressive Stilnovo chandelier — highlights curved, deep blue leather booths and an extensive library wall filled with vintage Italian photos and books. A blue and sage green-tiled floor greets guests in the front café and bar, where marble and brass tables and high-top seating allow for the seamless transition from day to night.
