This Welsh-style pub draws a friendly crowd for its nice selection of beers and traditional pub food. There's a large bar up front that is great for watching the game (rugby is big here), while the dining room offers a nice escape with its warm wood paneling and cozy booths.
On tap you'll find a nice assortment of brews like Southern Tier Harvest Ale, Morland Old Speckled Hen and G-D Hoss at half and full-pint prices. If you looking for something a bit stronger try the "Grog," a rum drink with lime and molasses, or a "Dark & Stormy" with Gosling's, ginger beer and lime.
Longbow's kitchen is also turning out terrific comfort foods. Start with a batch of fried oysters($6) that are surprisingly fresh, plump and juicy. Buffalo-style chicken wings are also popular and spicy hot served with a refreshing blue cheese dressing to cool 'em down ($9.50). Traditional treats include a Dutch Egg ($8.50). The hard-boiled egg gets wrapped in sausage and breaded. There's also something called "Chip Butty," which is basically fries served on a thick slice of white bread ($5.50).
Longbow is also known for its Fish & Chips ($13.50), beer-battered cod cooked until golden brown with homemade tartar sauce and a side of chips. Shepherd's Pie ($14.00) makes for a truly hearty meal. Seasoned lamb with carrots and peas is topped with a thick layer of silky mashed potatoes. Other dishes include Bangers & Mash (sausages with mashed potato and gravy), Welsh Rarebit (aged cheddar infused with beer and spices on thick country white bread), and Bacon Butty (Irish bacon on buttered country white bread with chips). There are pub burgers; one topped with Welsh rarebit and veggy version with portobello mushrooms, mozzarella and grilled onions. Save room for dessert. The apple cobbler ($6) served hot in a mini crock pot is worth digging into with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
The staff at Longbow is also very friendly. Our server couldn't have been more lovely and hard-working. The restaurant also serves brunch, including a full English breakfast on weekends.
