Cititour Review:

Mare, which stands for surf in Italian, is a fitting name for this Chelsea establishment since most of what you'll find on the menu comes from the sea. The restaurant itself is made to look like an old fashioned fish market, from the murals on the walls to the refrigerator counter proudly displaying the catch of the day. But Mare may be having some trouble catching on. During our two visits the place sat nearly empty. But that didn't stop us from slurping down a batch of raw oysters at the bar. We counted 18 varieties the day we visited. The oysters ($24 a dozen or more) were very fresh and went well with the selection of beers on tap. The seafood salad was a different story. It was dry and the mussels a bit fishy tasting. Also on the menu you'll find grilled Atlantic salmon, seared sea scallops, and fresh seafood towers which range in price from $26 to $86. Mare has a nice atmosphere, although it wouldn't hurt for staff to crack a smile from time to time. Also, be sure to bring cash. Mare does not accept credit cards, but does have its own cash machine. $35 per person.
