Cititour Review:

I'm not what you call the green, healthy type.  But I do like a good salad when I see one, which brings me to Sweetgreen.  I stumbled upon this spot on a somewhat desolate street while heading to the Flatiron District. After doing a bit of research, I realized it's actually a large chain with locations across the Northeast in DC, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia.   This is one of two spots in the city.  You'll find the other location in Tribeca.

This restaurant, in a part of the the city known as NoMad, is very spacious with a long salad bar along with table, and yes, bleecher seating.  Sweetgreen is known to cater to a college crowd and its clientele appears to be quite young.  In fact, the chain was started by college students.   It's a place where the creators like to say "passion and purpose" come together through eating healthy and education.

The food at Sweetgreen is locally sourced, farm-to-table cuisine.  There are signature salads like a Kale Caesar with shaved parmesan, grape tomatoes and a parmesan crisp, or the Misoba, a mix of organic mesclun with soba noodles, raw corn, carrots and raw seeds with a squeeze of sriracha.  Or you can design your own.  I opted for baby spinach with chickpeas, red onions, raw beets with a splash of fresh lime.  It was quite good and was served with a thick slice of wheat bread.

The staff at Sweetgreen was very pleasant and helpful. But because it's self-serve, the place can look a little unkempt at times.   But I wasn't complaining.   In fact, I couldn't help but feel a little healthier as I left Sweetgreen.  Now, that's sweet!
