Eating healthier is the new trend in fast-food and The Little Beet is capitalizing on it. The chain says it's goal is "to serve real food deliciously" inspired by local, seasonal and natural ingredients. With several locations sprouting throughout the city, one of the largest is a bright, airy spot on West 50th Street. The menu features an assortment of soups and salads along with larger bowls. The flagship dish, The Little Beet" features beets, quinoa, arugula, goat cheese, chicken with a sherry-shallot dressing. They also sell rolls, like the Banh Mi, a large roll stuffed with shredded chicken, guacamole, cucumber, red radish and homemade slaw with brown rice and a chipotle sauce wrapped in nori. There is a salmon version and another made with marinated shitake mushrooms and tofu. The shop also sells cold pressed juices and baked goods, like a gluten-free brownie and oatmeal-cranberry cookies. The Little Beet has several other locations in the city, including at The Pennsy, a food court near Penn Station, and another at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City. - Thomas Rafael
