A taste of Roma comes to Orchard Street at Trapizzino which operates seven restaurants in Italy and now its first location in New York City. Rustic Italian bread is hollowed out to create these triangular shaped sandwiches. The sandwiches are filled with 14 different sauces which rotate on a daily basis. They include Pollo alla Cacciatora made with chicken, garlic, white wine and rosemary; the Polpetto al Sugo which is essentially a beef meatball in tomato sauce; and Coda alla Vaccinara made with oxtail, celery and red wine. Suppli or riceballs are also offered with fllings ranging from a beef ragu with fresh mozzarella to artichoke with grana padana, and butternut squash with pecorino romano, and provolone. The sandwiches sell for $6.50, while the rice balls run $3.50. Italian beer and wine is also available.
