Cititour Review:

Vietnamese-style sandwiches are taking the city by storm these days.  And with good reason.  They're lively, filling and, oh yes, cheap.

But Angela Sosa, formerly of Yumcha, is betting that they can also be haute cuisine.  He's just opened his sandwich shop called Xie Xie (Pronounced Shay Shay) in Hell's Kitchen.  It's a wonderful little spot with white cafe-style tables and chairs, and funky purple walls.

The menu is quite limited with just a handful of sandwiches to choose from.  There's a fish sandwich called "Fish Chaca La Vong" livened up with onion jam and sriracha mayo ($8.75), a sweet and sour pork sandwich in a Chinese bun ($8.50) and an Asian Lobster Roll served up with Kewpie mayo, crispy shallots and tarragon ($14).

We tried the Vietnamese BBQ Beef, a healthy size sandwich that you'll need two hands to wrap around, filled with a nice slab of beef and carrot kimchee slathered with basil mayo ($9).  Very yummy.

For dessert there are fortune cookies stuffed with yuzu cream ($3), and their 1,000 year old ice cream sandwich made with chocolate cookies and black caramel ($4).
