A visit to the Basilio Restaurant and Inn on Staten Island offers a trip back in time.
Pictures of old ocean liners line the walls of this family-run restaurant which dates back to the early 1920s.
They also cook up some great home-style Italian food. And be prepared to eat.
Go for the hot antipasto.. the stuffed tomato was a hit, as was the penne with fresh tomato sauce and prosciuto.
For the main course we tried the the stuffed breast of veal and the eggplant parmagiana. Both were very good and very fresh. Top it off with some espresso and a tortoni.
Basilio keeps odd hours and closes early so be sure to call ahead.
