Review:
We were on our way to see The Grinch with just 45 minutes to spare when we decide to stop in for a quick bite at the new Brooklyn Diner. It's a spiffy version of the 57th Street digs and just perfect for Times Square.
There are egg creams, milk shakes and malteds available in this retro-style diner. We opted for some salads, over-sized burgers ($14.95) with loads of shoestring fries, and nearly died when this huge 15-inch hot dog (about an inch thick) arrived in front of my 5 year-old-son. He didn't know what to do with it and we all enjoyed a good laugh. Literally, this monster dog ($15.95) could feed about three people.
Also on the menu, you'll find a Maine Lobster Roll ($23.50), Maryland Crabcakes ($21.95), Meat Loaf ($17.95) and an 8oz. Filet Mignon ($27.95) served with fried pierogies, carmelized onions with a horseradish cream. A late night menu features eggs benedict, Norwegian smoked salmon and eggs, and something they call a "Mixed Marriage."
All in all, Brooklyn Diner was a hit. They got us in and out quick, as we requested, but didn't seem to be rushing people out either, most of whom were tourists having a good time sipping malteds and chomping on burgers.
By the way, The Grinch is fantastic; a real good, feel-good show for the holidays!
