I think what I loved most about my visit to the Buttercup Bake Shop is their take on the "Devil Dog." It's actually a dark chocolate cupcake topped with a thick layer of a marshmallowy frosting and chocolate cake crumbs. It tastes like a real "Devil Dog," if not better. Best of all was the look on my son's face as he dug into one and the dollop of white frosting it left on his nose.
You'll find lots of other great treats at the Buttercup Bake Shop. There are layer cakes in all shapes and sizes, and assorted pies. We saw a delicious looking Pecan Pie on our visit and freshly baked coffee cakes. Prices can be a bit steep. A 2-layer cakes starts at $22 with a triple-layer costing $40. Pies range in price from $7 to $16. But you can also find cheaper desserts, including a great assortment of cupcakes and mini-cheesecakes for $4. Our favorite was the chocolate swirl cheesecake with a crisp chocolate crust on the bottom. Yum!
