Summary:
Lobster bars and clam shacks are common in New England, but the cramped quarters of the tiny seafood restaurants are not quite as common in New York City. The ones that do it do it well, however, like Ed's Lobster Bar, which recently opened a Clinton Street annex to its well-loved Nolita location.
The annex offers small-plate versions of favorites from the original menu, like lobster ravioli (6 e) served up tapas style – one at a time – as well as a slider version of the lobster roll (5 e) that made the original Ed's a favorite of seafood lovers all over Manhattan. There's also a variety of options on offer from the raw bar, including half a Maine lobster (20), as well as a small menu of full-sized dishes, including the signature lobster roll (27) from the original Ed's and a whole steamed lobster (34).
The annex offers seating at two bars – a small eight-seat bar in the front and a larger eighteen-seat raw bar in back – plus seasonal outdoor seating. Fans of the original Ed's can rejoice at the opening of this new outpost, especially considering the fact that, like its cousin, Ed's Annex doesn't take reservations.
