José Andrés has officially brought his party to New York. The internationally celebrated chef and humanitarian has opened Oyamel at Hudson Yards—the first NYC outpost of his beloved Washington, D.C. restaurant. Known for its exuberant take on regional Mexican flavors, Oyamel is a full-throttle celebration of street food, tequila, and José Andrés–level culinary swagger.
The vibe is pure Mexican street festival, reimagined through the lens of the José Andrés Group and Rockwell Group's bold, colorful design. Inside, bursts of color, natural textures, and the brand’s signature butterflies bring life to the space beneath the High Line. It’s not just another sleek Hudson Yards restaurant—it’s a party with purpose.
And the food? It hits all the right notes. Signature dishes include tacos de carnitas with confit pork, crispy pork rinds, salsa verde, and a generous hit of lime; empanadas made with earthy mushroom or smoked pork picadillo; and scallop-octopus ceviche with pineapple and habanero that snaps with heat and brightness. Don’t sleep on the crispy Brussels sprouts bathed in smoky salsa macha, mint, and dill—or the large-format Pollo al Mole and Lamb Barbacoa, made for tearing and sharing.
The drinks are as playful as the food. Andrés’s famed Salt Air Margarita floats a cloud of salted foam atop a classic blend of blanco tequila, citrus, and orange liqueur. The Pineapple Habanero delivers just the right amount of burn, while the El Bajío Michelada is a spicy masterclass in what a beer cocktail can be. You’ll also find Mexican wines, agua frescas, and a full range of celebratory pours.
With its debut at 10 Hudson Yards, Oyamel is a return to form for Andrés in NYC—marking the chef’s first expansion of the concept since launching Mercado Little Spain nearby in 2019. At a time when the city’s Mexican food scene is thriving, Oyamel isn’t just another opening—it’s a landmark arrival. See more
