Cititour Review:

In the East Village lies a haven for comfort where good old homestyle cooking meets casual dining that is dedicated to one dish alone. S’MAC is a smorgasbord of possibilities for the seemingly humble mac and cheese. It is a bright orange and yellow oasis of gooey melted cheddar and elbow macaroni, but the variety of flavors and options make it more than what your mother made.

All orders come in four sides – Nosh, Major Munch, Mongo and Partay, though for those who are really hungry, even the smallest plate can fill you up, making the prices worth it. My friends and I tried the Parisienne, (creamy brie, mushrooms and figs), and the Napoletana (mozzarella, tomatoes, garlic and basil), but it was the Mediterranean (goat cheese, spinach, kalamata olives and roasted garlic) that was memorable for me and brought a definitive European touch to an American dish. And if you’re missing your childhood mac and cheese, All-American, with its blend of different cheeses, will surely trigger waves of nostalgia.

Lines are usually long, but the wait was reasonable. There is also a take-out store next door. Thankfully, customers have a choice in their macaroni – regular, multi-grain or gluten free; and with or without breadcrumbs.
