Yakitori are those Japanese skewers offering decadent bites of grilled meats, seafood and vegetables. At Teisui in Flatiron they are prepared in a zen-like space with natural wood elements and a bar that wraps around an open kitchen. It is here you will find two chefs preparing each piece with utmost care, including preening some of the meats with scizzors. The result are miniature masterpieces. Teisui offers two types of omakase (5 or 7 skewers) where the chef makes the selection for you or you can order a la carte. Our selections included chicken skins grilled on an open flame, succulent, with crispy bits around the edges; pork belly wrapped tightly into mini pinwheels that are wonderfully fatty; beef heart served rare with a little more chew; sauteed chicken with scallion; and Berkshire pork jowl that is moist and juicy slathered with yakitori sauce. The food at Teisui is truly exceptional. Sushi, sashimi and hand rolls are also offered along with a nice selection of sake and Japanese beer. See more
