In the deluge of great burger joints - 5 Napkin, Bill's Bar & Burger, Shake Shack, and more recently The Counter - it's easy to get lost in the sauce. But one little spot in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn is managing to stand out in the crowd.
Buger Bistro is serving up burgers your way. The menu is a virtual checklist of sorts. Diners start by picking the type of burger: beef, lamb or turkey ($6-$8). They how you'd like it cooked from rare to well.
Then pick a topping. For a buck apiece you can design your burger how you see fit. From the cheese section there's blue, feta, cheddar, guouda and the list goes on. We counted ten different cheeses to choose from. Then pick a topping which include applewood bacon, roasted peppers, frizzled onions and even a fried egg. Need a roll? Check off brioche, multi-grain, onion or olive. And finish it off with a special sauce. There's cucumber yogurt, honey mustard, jalapeno mayo just to name a few. Or plain old ketchup.
You can also do this with sandwiches; including rib eye, grilled veggies, grilled chicken breast or a crab cake.
We sampled the beef burgers which are thick and juicy and go great with a side of homemade potato chips or sweet potato strings ($3).
For dessert, create your own ice cream sandwich. You get to pick from four different cookies and four different ice cream. It's a simple concept that seems to be working for The Burger Bistro judging by the crowd we spot especially on weekends.
