When August got its start Downtown it was a cozy spot winning praise for its comfort foods. At the time, my colleague Brian Scott Lipton wrote, "I would happily dine weekly (if not nightly) on the house's delectably crispy wood-roasted chicken (cooked the Italian way, under a brick) set atop addictively creamy polenta and crowned with a few wild mushrooms." Fast forward to 2017 and August is now serving an Uptown crowd.
The restaurant is stylish and inviting. Large French doors opening onto the main dining area. Light brick walls brightly complimenting the hardwood floors and stainless steel tabletops. Blue and white linen napkins adding to a bistro feel. It's the kind of place where you want to hang out.
August is still serving its roasted chicken, now with broccolini and sweet potatoes. Other menu items include baked lobster; bite-size pieces of lobster served escargot-style in garlic butter and smothered with breadcrumbs. You will also find grilled jumbo shrimp with roasted corn polenta, braised short ribs with brussel sprouts and an Angus burger with bacon relish served with a side of crispy shoestring potatoes.
Wine is the drink of choice, with a selection of reds, whites and sparkling varieties. August is open for lunch, dinner and brunch.
