Review:

What the Shake Shack is to burgers, Bark is to hot dogs.  And Brooklyn should be very glad to have them.

First off, this isn't a stop just for the kiddies, although we do recommend letting them tag along.  This is a place where you can have a nice tall beer with your hot dog which is a nice plus.   The restaurant itself is really cool and well thought out.  There are large wooden sharing tables with tall bar stools, and lots of different textures.  From wood and exposed brick to subway tiles on the walls, solid hardwood floors and nice marble counters.  You feel instantly comfortable the minute you walk in, and Bark's friendly staff reinforces that feeling. 

But what you'll like best are the hot dogs. We tried two of them; the Bark Dog ($4.75) loaded with a sweet pepper relish and lots of mustard.  It's delicious!  The dogs have a nice snap and  the fixins' are fabulous.  You'll never want to eat bottled relish again.  Next up, the Bacon Cheddar Dog ($5.50) topped with melted cheese, chunks of bacon and diced red onion.  I've never had anything like.  But hope to again very soon.

You'll also find a New York Classic ($4.75) with sweet and sour onions, a Kraut Dog ($4.50) with oak barrel aged sauerkraut, the Chili Cheese Dog ($6), and Beans and Franks ($5.50), topped with baked heriloom beans, smoky pork, onions and mustard.

Sides are also great here, from the freshly made onion rings ($3/$5) that are best described as "greasy goodness" to homemade Gravy Fries ($3.75).   Wash it down with some Six Point Ale.  We spotted four varieties on tap at $4 a glass, or take home a Growler (half gallon jugs) for $12 plus a $3 deposit.  The restaurant also serves Foxon Park sodas in flavors like White Birch beer and Cherry, and seven types of shakes ($6), including butterscotch, blueberry-sweet cream and malted chocolate.

Bark is also open for breakfast on weekends. The Cheese Grits, Braised Bacon & Crispy Egg ($10) sounds like it alone is worth a return trip.  There are also freshly made buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy or Vermont butter and honey.

Bark says it likes to use local and organic products whenever possible, and it's prices won't bite you're wallet.  They're doggone good!
