New York certainly has no shortage of places where a nice thick juicy steak will cost you an arm-and-a-leg. Enter E&E Grill House which is hoping to make a steak dinner much more affordable in a comfortable setting. The restaurant is located inside the Pearl Hotel, a boutique hotel in the heart of the theatre district making it perfect for a meal before or after the show. Colorful banquette seating, exposed brick and a working fireplace in the cooler months adds to its charm. Owners Eddie Bergman and Eric Perlmutter, the two E's, are joined by another “E,” Eric Simeon, formerly of Picholine and Aquavit, who helped craft the menu. The restaurant is making a pretty bold promise that no steak dish, including one side, will top $35, quite a steal for the city. It includes four cuts of beef; filet, sirloin, hanger and tri-tip. Steaks can be matched with six tempting sauces; chive blue butter and roasted mushroom among them. But the menu doesn't stop there. You will also find smoked pork chops, organic chicken, pan-roasted Scottish salmon and three types of homemade raviolis. Side dishes include cous cous, black-eyed peas alongside baked, fried and mashed potatoes. You might not want to skip out before dessert. There’s key lime pie, a brownie sundae and a seasonal cobbler served with Barrington coffee from an artisanal roaster in the Berkshires. – Thomas Rafael
