Our first visit to Ed's Lobster Bar was on a Thursday night and the place was packed with a line right out the door. So, we decided to try again. This time, it was a Sunday afternoon and the crowd for brunch was far more managable and you really got a feel for the place. The restaurant itself is fresh and bright for such a narrow space with a white marble bar that pretty much runs the entire length of the place with a handful of tables in the back. There are lamps that resemble port holes, and wainscoting that gives the room a seafarer's feel. Daily specials are placed on blackboards. And I'm not sure if tattoos are mandatory to work here, but it sure seems like everyone has them from the wait staff to the chef. The servers, by the way, are trained sommeliers and are very helpful, and on our visit - very nice! Word quickly spread about Ed's and the place is already filling up with hipsters slurping on oysters or munching on fried calamari. We pulled up to the long marble bar and enjoyed a tall glass of Jever, a light and refreshing German beer, that went beautifully with the briny littlenecks that arrived on a bed of ice. While there are several fish options, fried clams and oysters on the menu, the real reason folks should come to Ed's is for the lobster roll. You see, Ed McFarland was the old sous-chef at Pearl Oyster Bar. When he decided to open his own place, lobster was the logical choice. At $19, the lobster rolls at Ed's are a few bucks cheaper than at Pearl's. But you should really come for the taste. The rolls are brimming with fresh chunks of lobster meat with just the right amount of mayo along with a splash of chives. A healthy helping of fresh cut fries and Ed's homemade spicy pickles round off what is truly a delicious meal! We loved Ed's. We think you will too.
