Kazu Nori in NoMad draws a steady crowd at its “Original Hand Roll Bar". The concept is fairly simple. Diners take a seat at a long sushi bar as workers try to keep up with demand. Hand rolls, constructed from a single sheet of warmed nori, are set in front of each diner as soon as they are made. The rolls have a bit of crunch when you bite into one. They can be purchase a la carte or in groupings. The latter is the better deal with four rolls, for instance, costing $16. Toro, yellowtail, snapper and blue crab are among the offerings. Dunk your roll into some soy sauce. Add a slice of ginger, slather on some wasabi and dive in. You are not alone. Service charge included.
