The Vanderbilt food court continues to draw large crowds. On my last visit it seemed like one giant party. At Suzette, which I thought only sold crepes, it looked more like happy hour. I was waiting for a conga line to break out judging by all of the merriment. Lots of folks could also be found lining up for doughnuts at Dough and at other concessions. But I was hankering for something a little different. I found it at Takumi.
Takumi is an Asian fusion spot blending the flavors of Japan and Mexico. It's specialty, tacos prepared in a crispy gyoza shell. I went for the spicy tuna. It is made with sashimi grade "big eye" tuna with jicama and cucumber for crunch, avocado, radish and black sesame seeds with a spicy mayo. It's a little more expensive than other tacos offered here, but worth every bite. Also offered; Japanese curry beef with a Napa cabbage slaw, adobe chicken, chipotle shrimp with edamame, and braised short rib with Japanese mustard and a yuzu avocado crema.
Takuma also sells Asian-inspired rice bowls, Teriyaki chicken and charred corn salad with shishito peppers and a miso vinaigrette. Wash it down with a sake cocktail and joing the party!
