In these lean times there are a few places where you can still treat yourself for a buck. In a sliver of a shop, off the beaten path in SoHo, don't be surprised to find a line forming outside Baked by Melissa, and don't be surprised to shell out a buck for a cupcake that amounts to one mouthful. But what a mouthful.
Melissa Bushell is cooking up some tasty treats based on some old favorites like Cookies & Cream, a mini chocolate cupcake topped with a creamy frosting and an Oreo chip, which my son just loved. Other flavors include; Red Velvet, Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter and Jelly, S'mores and a funky multi-colored version called Tie Dye.
Each morsel is super sweet and while the size may offend some (each cupcake is just about the size of a quarter), just think, one bite might just be enough to satisfy you and help you squeeze into a bathing suit at nearby Top Shop.
