Kosher delicatessens are slowly going extinct - a sad fact that one can ignore by dining at Ben's Best. The name doesn't lie; this indeed is Ben's Best, with sandwiches piled high with delicious house cured meats and amazing homemade goodies in the display case.

The matzoh ball soup comes in a giant mug labeled "Jewish Penicillin" - and that it is, curing anything that ails you. Sweet broth, bits of carrot, and spiked liberally with dill and a twist of lemon, you'll slurp down every last drop and immediately feel better. Kreplach, cabbage hungroise (stuffed cabbage), knishes - all are great to start the meal, but leave room for the main attraction.

Pastrami is the absolute star here; layered lovingly on rye bread till it's ready to topple over but not quite, tender, and bursting with flavor, you cannot go to Ben's Best without having pastrami in some form. If necessary, split a sandwich with a friend so you can try more items, but do not leave without pastrami. You will regret it if you do.
