Cititour Review:

It's nice to know some things never change. I hadn't been to Ferdinando's Facacceria in more than a decade, and yet it looks like's its been frozen in time. Frankie Ferdinando stands proud behind the counter of the restaurant his father opened in 1904.

On the walls, a map of Sicily and photos of Palermo, which reflect the style of cuisine. The restaurant remains a magnet for locals who meet at its back tables talking with family and friends just like the old days.

I had come back to Ferdinando's yearning for a "Panelle Special" and wondering if it would be as good as I remembered. A panelle is a chickpea fritter that is deep fried. Two or three are stacked onto a freshly made sesame seed bun and then topped with creamy ricotta cheese and shavings of fresh parmesan cheese. It was heaven and just as I had remembered. The sandwich goes great with a glass of Manhattan Special coffee soda which the restauarant keeps on tap.

Also at Ferdinando's you'll find a great octopus salad, stuffed sundried tomatoes and artichokes, baked clams and lots of other delicacies from southern Italy. Definately worth a trip to Brooklyn for this one.
