From the folks that brought you Littleneck, a popular clam bar in Gowanus, comes The Pines. This time owners Aaron Lefkove and Andy Curtin are teaming up with Angelo Romano, formerly of Masten Lake in Williamsburg. And the menu is quite eclectic. There are cheeses, like "Moses Sleeper" from Vermont served with seeded wheat, tomato mustarda and chili paste ($14). Salads range from apples with sheep's milk and hibiscus ($10) to frisee with pistachios, lardo and ogen melon ($14). Entrees include pasta dishes like cavatelli with a trotter ragu ($16) and short ribs served with abalone mushrooms, aji dolce peppers and quark ($31). The Pines also has a nice assortment of wines and craft beers on hand, like Maine Peeper Ale ($8) and Wandering Star Raindrop ($7). Or if you prefer something a bit harder, try a rum cocktail, made with Due North Rum, burnt orange and buckwheat syrup ($11). Whisky, gin and tequila play a starring role in some of the other libations. While you won't find many pines at The Pines, you will find a grapevine out back.
