Beyond Sushi  is offering a 100% plant-based menu and the taste goes above and beyond.  We started with "Fun Guy" dumplings made with braised porcini, shiitake and portobello mushrooms, baked tofu and spinach topped with micro arugula and chili toasted panko.  A spicy bean and shiitake truffle sauce is then added.  There is a lot going on, but the colors, taste and textures drive the dish home.

A sushi sampler also gives you a taste what the restaurant has to offer.  All are made with black rice. One bite brought a mix of charred corn, harissa and fresh cilantro. A second delved deep into the richness of tomato with a tomato guajilo. Curried cauliflower is set atop an almond pesto, while a fourth piece was filled with seaweed salad, chili flakes and sesame seeds. Spicy Mang is also worth exploring. The roll is made with black rice, avocado, mango, and English cucumber that is topped with a spicy vegetable pate and toasted cayenne. We counted at least seven specialty rolls being offered. Soups include coconut curry and chili mushroom along with larger bowls of noodle soups. Salads, wraps, and rice bowls are also offered.  Desserts include a black bean sweet potato brownie. 

The restaurant is light and airy with a large open kitchen. All in all, Beyond Sushi offers a nice experience, even for non-vegetarians.
