Cititour Review:

Brooklyn Burger Bar is now Brooklyn Flipster's It was sad to see Minnow go. It was one of the few places in Park Slope where a good fish dinner could be had, and the restaurant had a good run. So I wasn't surprised to see it replaced with a burger joint, called Brooklyn Burger Bar. Afterall, burgers are hot and everyone seems to be hopping on the bandwagon. There are some good things and some not-so-good things to tell you about after our first visit. It was a bitter cold day and we were seated behind a brick wall with an archway adjacent to the door. So, every time the door opened we froze. We wound up sitting with our jackets on. Not a good thing especially if you have kids in tow. It was also not a good thing that some of the electrical work was apparently still being worked on, including an outlet propped up by a pipe a good six inches from the wall. We did, however, have a very nice waitress who moved us away from the door and to somewhat warmer ground. I must also say that I like the feel of the place. There's a great bar up front and lots of exposed brick. And in warmer weather I could see it being a popular neighborhood destination. The burgers, made with angus beef, are good, but nothing to write home about. The fries are also your garden variety type. Only a crispy mass of onion rings stood out. They were actually quite good, until the waitress promptly removed them because "they didn't look right" and replaced them with better looking rings, but not as tasty. And then there were the mini-burgers. What I was expecting were three plump burgers on brioche-style buns. But what arrived were three thin, dried out masses about the size of a half dollar each. For 11 bucks, they'll have to do better than that. But having said all that I still think the concept is good and with some retooling in the kitchen, Brooklyn Burger Bar could probably be a great place. We'll give it a second try and let you know.
