Cititour Review:
Italian eatery Café Fiorello is a short walk from Lincoln Center on the West Side. The restaurant has a bit of old world charm as you walk in and are greeted by a sprawling Antipasti Bar. You can grab seats and order from the more than 30 hot and cold selections they prepare daily at the bar. Bulk meats hang over the Antipasti Bar from the classic tin ceilings. We opted for a table that we had called to reserve several weeks earlier. The crowd tends to grow before and after shows at Lincoln Center and around the holiday season. We began with a vegetable antipasto selecting grilled asparagus, sautéed string beans with almonds and onions, and grilled zucchini. Homemade mozzarella arrived accompanied by sweet roasted peppers. The antipasti selection is vast and we were pleased with our choices, but you can’t help but wish you could have a sampling of all the delicious selections. Some entrees like the lasagna are flagged on the menu as specials. The lasagna made with meat ragu, mozzarella, parmesan and meatballs is prepared open face style, and has quite a spicy bite to it. The veal parmigiana was a huge serving and a very tender cut. Sides of pasta or vegetables can be added on to your entrée for an additional cost. Finally, we ordered the 12 oz filet mignon with cannelloni and sweet peas. The filet was cooked to perfection. The cannelloni and peas were fiery with several different spices in the mix.
The servings were all generous and we were almost to full for dessert. We opted for tea and a plate of biscotti accompanied by a Vin Santo dessert wine for dipping.
