Cititour Review:

Chomp Chomp, a West Village spot, buzzes with excitement mainly because its Singapore "hawker" food is worth getting excited about.  It's based off of traditional street food sold at hawker stalls, an integral part of Singapore's food culture.  Chef Simpson Wong is serving up dishes like Marmite Chicken; crunchy bites of fried chicken in a spicy soy sauce with cucumber and dried noodles.  Popiah are soft summer rolls filled with marinated shrimp, jicama and snow peas.  Other snacks include cereal covered prawns and an oyster omelet known as Oh Luak.  Chomp Chomp is also cooking up noodles.  There is Duck Chor Mee made with duck confit and wonton noodles and Char Kway Teow, a mix of seafood, dried noodles and pork croutons. The latter is a warm and welcoming  dish, not to mention delicious.  Other offerings include BBQ stingray, chili crab and lamb shank in a "million" spices.  Space is tight at Chomp Chomp with a limited number of tables.  But if you're willing to eat at the bar or counter overlooking the open kitchen, where a giant flame may appear from time to time, you should be able to squeeze in. We recommend you do.
