Sexy elegance is the best way to describe this spot for designer cocktails and small bites. It's a place for a romantic rendezvous or a get-together with some friends after work or late night. Lush banquettes and warm walnut bar make the place irresistible. Forty Eight is the brainchild of Brian Packin, the guy who brought you the Stone Rose Lounge at the Time Warner Center, and real estate executive David Nader. But it's Brian, and his wife Carrie, who you'll find catering to your every need. And while the place is sophisticated (dress appropriately), the staff is friendly and not stuffy which says a lot. So, lean back and grab yourself a cocktail. There's the signature Forty Eight, a modern take on an old classic made with Hendrick's Gin, ginger liqueur, fresh lemon juice, champagne and a dash of rose water. Or maybe an Angel Heart, made with Stoli and pomegranate liqueur. If love is in the air, try a "His-n-Hers", a pairing of martinis - Lavazza Machiato for him; a cappuccino martini for her. There's also an extensive wine list. The menu offers several small plates prepared by Blue Ribbon chefs. There are meatballs with a honey and pineapple glaze ($15), and an open faced BLT with roast garlic mayo and smoked bacon ($9). You'll also find a mini Cuban with roast pork, Cotto ham and pickles ($9), baked shrimp & chorizo ($12), and steak tartare served with capers, red onion and garlic flat bread ($22). What's not to like? Forty Eight is located in the McGraw Hill building at Rockefeller Center. - Thomas Rafael
