Cititour Review:
When Go! Go! Curry arrived on the scene in the East Village it was met with long lines. This is not your ordinary Japanese restaurant. In fact, it's really not a Japanese restaurant at all. It's actually a separate menu being offered at the American Grill on East 7th Street. And you might walk right by if not for a poster pasted by the front door. Here, along with your pancakes, steaks and burgers you'll find Go! Go! Curry. What exactly is it? Well, it comes in 9 different varieties and sizes range from Walk ($5) to Triple XL ($9.50). We sampled the "Katsu" Pork (Single $7.50). What arrived was a juicy fried pork cutlet smothered in a brown curry gravy on a bed of white rice with curly cues of Asian cabbage in the shape of a ball. The gravy has a nice curry flavor but it's also a little goppy. We're told the pork and chicken are the bestsellers, but you'll also find calamari, shrimp and sausage curry on the menu. Our waitress really didn't know what made up the "Grand Slam," but I gather it's a combo platter. There's also a Go! Go! burger for the less daring among us. The food is tasty, but I had trouble getting over the fact that I was eating Japanese fast-food in an American diner. What's next, Greek food in a Japanese restaurant?
