Cititour Review:

Authentic New York City barbecue being served up on the Brooklyn waterfront.   That's what you will find at Hometown Bar-B-Cue, on Van Brunt Street in Red Hook.  Located in an old factory building, the restaurant features with two full bars and live music on weekends.  A wood-fired barbecue pit  and cow on the wall signaling what lies ahead.

Hometown serves an assortment of meats, including brisket, beef ribs, baby back ribs, pulled pork, jerk chicken and smoked jalapeno & cheddar sausage.  Just like Fletcher's and Mighty Quinn's, all of the meats are available via counter service on a first-come basis until they sell out.  Be prepared for a long line during peak hours, but it moves pretty quickly.

The pork ribs are fabulous, nice and meaty with a reasl smokey flavor.  Add some hot barbecue sauce or a sweeter version and you're set.  Just be sure to grab a bunch of napkins (and a beer) before you dig in.    The brisket is juicy and tender.  We also enjoyed the lamb belly served up like pulled pork. The jerk chicken sandwich and lamb bahm also deserve high marks.  Thick slab pastrami bacon and Chinese sticky ribs are also offered.

Sides include addictive smoked pit beans with chunks of bacon, collard greens, creamy mac 'n cheese, and Hometown slaw.   There's also banana cream pudding for dessert.

By day the place is place is popular with families, while at night, you can expect a more of honky tonk environment with folks grabbing a whisky or bourbon by the bar.
