Cititour Review:

I didn’t set out to go on a slider binge, but after eating at Mark a couple weeks ago that’s what has been happening. This Burger Adventure was supposed to take place at Sliders Bar & Grill, but I tried to go for lunch on a Thursday and it was closed. I forgot that for most people, Thursday is not the weekend and given the lack of office buildings in Alphabet City, there’s no reason for Sliders to be open then. Then I tried to go to Paul’s Da Burger Joint because Twitter told me they had a new menu with REAL sliders on it. Apparently twitter jumped the gun because I was told there were no sliders yet.

At that point I was starving and would have been happy to eat any old burger as long as it was new to me. But a last ditch effort that saw me search for sliders on Yelp brought up Jack’s Sliders and Sushi. I was skeptical to say the least. Though I’d eaten solid hamburgers at Japanese restaurants before, I didn’t think that this one would not only have a good burger but also prepare sliders the way they’re meant to be prepared. However, an image on Yelp sure made it look like these were real-for-deal sliders, so I checked it out.

The place was small and my buddy and I were one of two parties there. The other table was eating sushi, but we were on a slider mission. The Jack’s Sliders are wrapped in a slice of bacon, with grilled onions and jalapeño mayo. For an extra two bucks, the meal comes with a house salad and a mountain of old bay seasoned fries, as well as a little cup of wasabi mayo with a ketchup smiley face on it. How delightful.

Between the grilled onions and the delicious, moist bun, I was sold on the sliders at Jack’s from the first bite. Not only are they technically correct sliders, they’re quite tasty. The patty was a little overcooked, but that’s fairly common with small patties. Though more expensive than the sliders at White Burger, I was totally full after eating just three, and wasn’t sure my Second Stomach would be able to handle all the fries (it handled them just fine in the end).

I’ve heard that the Japanese food at Jack’s isn’t amazing, but that’s okay because they’re fighting the good fight and serving up authentic, tasty sliders in Manhattan.
