An Inwood favorite since 2008, Mamajuana has come to the Upper West Side, bringing Chef Ricardo Cordona's Dominican and Spanish menu to Amsterdam. The new location, comprising a restaurant and lounge, offers a unique blend of dishes to the Upper West Side. The menu is made up of flavors coming from several influences: some, like grilled octopus a la plancha (10) and seafood paella (30) are more traditionally Spanish; others, like chimichurri steak (24) are more South American in influence, while others still, like the pork spring roll appetizer with mango mojito sauce (8) bring more of a fusion flair to the menu. A variety of Spanish thin crust pizzas, as well as several dishes including the namesake mamajuana liquor – ceviche (12) and plantain and chorizo-stuffed chicken breast (24) to name a few – round out the dinner menu. On the lounge side, the restaurant offers an extensive drinks list, including wines by the glass and by the bottle – the reds from Spain are worth trying – and a selection of (strong) cocktails, to be accompanied by the selections from the Happy Hour appetizer menu. Saturday and Sunday brunch are also becoming popular at the new location with Upper West Side locals, with an assortment of baked goods, Dominican and Spanish breakfast favorites like ham, French toast, rice and beans, plantains and a Dominican Eggs Benedict... and, of course, unlimited mimosas and Jack punch. - Emily Monaco
