Cititour Review:

Now you can get your cheese and eat it too... right on the spot.   Murray's Cheese Shop now has its own cheese bar just a few steps away from the shop on Bleecker Street.  The space itself is rather tight with seating for a large group up front with smaller tables along the side.  The centerpiece is the bar itself made from luxurious carrara marble.   It's also the perfect spot to sample one of its many cheeses from around the world.

Here you will find fresh cheeses, like the Petit Billy, a pasteurized goat cheese from Billy, France.  There are soft-ripened cheeses like the River's Edge Silt Coos, a salty goat cheese from Logsden, Oregon crusted with ferns.  Then there are firm cheeses like the Solo di Bruna Parmigiano Reggiano, a raw cow cheese from Romagna, Italy.  We also spotted at least five different varieties of blue cheese.

All of the cheeses here can be mixed and matched, or served with cured meats. Flights range from three for $14 to five for $23.  Whether you know a lot about cheese or very little, the cheesemonger's here can be very helpful in making the perfect selection.

Each piece is pesented like artwork on a sheet of slate.   A soft goat cheese from upstate New York, named Rainbow Ridge Meridian, gets a bit of sweetness from dab of hibiscus marmalade on the side.  It also worked perfectly with Prosciutto San Daniele from Italy, soft and salty, that accompanied it.  We also enjoyed the the spiciness of the Columbus Hot Calabrese Salami spiked with red pepper from San Francisco.

Murray's is also serving up fondues to share, like the one made with gouda, jalapeno and chorizo ($12), and enchiladas stuffed with fresh mozzarella, fried egg and a pickled radish slaw ($12).  You will also find cheese spreads, melts and burgers along with some non-cheese items, like the grilled artichokes served with a buttermilk ranch ($9), and dandelion greens mixed with Nueske's bacon, lady apples and a buckwheat honey dressing ($12).

Murray's also has an extensive wine list, although some glasses can be quite pricey.  Beer is also served.
