Details:

Top Chef Leah Cohen, formerly of Centro Vinoteca and Asian pop-up LTO, is stepping out on her own, opening a new Asian spot in the former home of Falai on the Lower East Side. The restaurant called Pig and Khao is offering a mix of Thai and Filipino dishes. The meal begins with spiced chick peas and small plates like green mango salad with charred chicken and lemongrass ($13), and grilled pork jowel with watermelon and chicarron($13). Adventurous eaters might gravitate toward the Sizzling Sissig; pork head with liver, chili and whole egg ($12). Larger plates include grilled curry lamb ribs with pickled beets ($24), and whole fried fish served in a hot and sour broth with oyster mushrooms, cilantro and Thai basil ($28). The meal ends with a banana fritter with salted caramel ice cream or Halo-Halo, a traditional shaved ice dessert.
