Cititour Review:

Walking into Pipa is a little like entering a castle with crystal chandeliers hanging overhead and dripping candles lighting the path to your table. However, in reality Pipa is one of several restaurants run by trendy shopping mecca ABC Home in Union Square. A perfect combination in my mind is a day of shopping and eating. Pipa in Spanish slang means “good time” and this restaurant aims for just that. The sidewalk tables are perfect for some snacks and people watching. The bar was packed the entire time we lounged over dinner and our pitcher of Sangria. The wood tables have an antique feel and if you have a small group you will be seated at a communal table. We made friends with our neighbors at the table and recommended some great dishes for them to order. The Spanish inspired tapas menu begs for foodies to come and try the inventive dishes. We ordered Flatbread with Spanish Chorizo, roasted peppers, roasted tomatoes, artichokes and Manchego cheese. We also started with Serrano ham and olives as an appetizer. We shared a shrimp dish with garlic, olive oil, and chiles that had quite a bite. The pan seared fillet of red snapper with white beans and vegetable was served in a garlic butter sauce. As a side dish we shared some crispy potatoes sliced thinly with Spicy Mustard Aioli. Pipa also offers a weekend brunch for those craving hearty pancakes or just some bagels and muffins with atmosphere. The wait staff is friendly, but a bit on the slow side so if you are in a rush maybe wait until another day. So shop until you are about to drop and then drop into Pipa for a bite to eat. Make a reservation because they do get quite a dinner crowd. And just beware, after a few glasses of Sangria, you may think it is a great idea to buy one of the beautiful crystal chandeliers for yourself!
