Cititour Review:
Pizza Mezzaluna is a great little pizza shop on West Houston. Chef Francesco Vitale works the wood-fired oven like a master dishing up a delicious assortment of piping hot pies to eat in or take out.
There is the Napoli ($14) with tomato, anchovy and mozzarella; the Picante ($15) pie with spicy salami and chili peppers, and the Tonno ($16) topped with Sicilian tuna and capers. Or you can go for a traditional Margherita ($14) with tomato, mozzarella and basil.
We sampled the Funghi e Salsiccia ($17) topped with a healthy supply of fresh mozzarella, wild mushrooms and spicy sausage. The crust arrived perfectly crisp with a nice char. A simple tomato sauce and fresh basil finish it off. Simply delicious! And while the four-slice pie could easily feed two, you may want one just for yourself.
Pizza Mezzaluna also serves up a nice assortment of fresh salads, and pasta dishes like; homemade Black Linguine ($12) with a spicy tomato sauce, and Green Lasagna ($13) with Bolognese sauce. Bufalo mozzarella can also serve as a meal here. It's offered with your choice of Italian salami, prosciutto di Palma, mortadella and bresaola Valtellina.
Pizza Mezzaluna is a friendly spot that any neighborhood would gladly welcome.
