Radio Star - the 1940s-inspired restaurant in Greenpoint by the team behind Glasserie - is now open at 13 Greenpoint Avenue. The restaurant is paying homage to the history of radio broadcasting from nearby Transmitter Park, home of WNYC from 1937 - 1995 while presenting luscious Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. The fixtures and furniture are all original from the 1940s time period, with many elements personally collected by owner Sara Conklin from around the world.

Radio Star is open all day, seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Yusuf Lovett, the chef at Glasserie for the past two years, has been brought in to get things going. Breakfast and lunch centers around savory and sweet pastries, sandwiches, and sides with flavors influenced by Conklin’s growing up overseas in the Middle East.

The dinner menu features more substantive dishes with many iof the ngredients sourced as locally as possible, including flour from Wild Hive Farm (delivered by the Schooner Apollonia right to a nearby pier in Greenpoint).

“Radio Star is for the people: a place you can go for an espresso anytime, or a full meal,” said Conklin. “Pop in for a cocktail at 4pm and then maybe back for a breakfast sandwich at 8am the next day. We are here for everyone and always good for a chat across the bar."

Menu highlights include Saffron Pastry, phyllo filled with cream cheese, glazed in orange blossom saffron and cinnamon syrup; Cauliflower and goat cheese quiche; Merguez in a blanket; Mushroom Filo Pie with roasted maitakes, slow-cooked onions and Swiss chard in house-smoked labne; Olive Oil Poached Cod seared with crushed fingerling potatoes; and Glazed Pork cheeks with gently warmed dates in dry-aged beef fat and house harissa.

Also on the menu, Smoked Short Ribs - Niman ranch ribs, rubbed in dry cure and set overnight, smoked for several hours before a final braise in chicken stock. The ribs are glazed to order and served with smoked heirloom tomato sauce and Marcona almonds. The restaurant is also intentionally a fully gas-free venue.

Radio Star's beverage program travels the world offering wines from Greece, Slovenia, and Croatia. Guests will also find seasonal cocktails with names like War of the Worlds and Cigarettes & Coffee.  Local draft beers are also honored, including a custom Radio Star lager created with Michael Messine of Dutchess Ales.

Aside from seating 40 indoors, Radio Star can also accommodate guests on a front and side patio during warmer weather. Adding to the 1940s charm, the restaurant features original chrome soda fountain stools, Gilbert Rohde tables, and Midgard Curt Fischer steel funnel lamps.
