Everything about Rotisserie Georgette says full-on style from the landmarked Beaux Arts building that houses the new eatery to its UES location between Madison and Fifth near Central Park, high-end shopping and the Paris movie theater. This newcomer is the creation of two highly credentialed personalities: French- trained Executive Chef David Malbequi, an alumnus of both the Daniel Boulud and Laurent Tourondel operations, and General Manager Georgette Farkas, former long-term marketing communications honchette of the Boulud ventures. Rotisserie Georgette’s menu features—what else—various spit-roasted meats including two takes on chicken, (one a super deluxe version with mushrooms and seared fois gras); duck, other poultry, roast fish and more. Whole roast baby pig or leg of lamb is available with seventy-two hours notice; starters include the Salade G with a mix of greens, Asian pear, candied walnuts and blue cheese; gnocchi that can be also be ordered as an entrée and a fancy fois gras terrine priced far higher than other appetizers at $28. Luxurious vegetables and seasonal sides like celery-root pancakes in the fall and truffled baked potatoes in the winter also star in this warm space that makes dinner conversation a reality, thanks partly to decent spacing between tables. Entrepreneur Farkas is credited with overseeing the concept and décor that leans towards what she terms “Louis XV meets the kitchen," providing a comfortably elegant spot with ceramic tiled walls, framed mirrors and the charm and warmth of a partially open kitchen. Ceilings are high and caramel colored banquettes are simultaneously chic and cozy. Currently, only dinner is available but as of November 29th, lunch will be served with Sunday Brunch following later in the season. A full bar seating twelve serves up a wide array of largely French wines ,with a focus on small, artisanal producers, by the glass as well as plenty of reasonably priced bottles; classy cocktails and bar snacks including spicy chicken drummettes, roast chicken sliders and an egg mayo trio sparked with flavors of truffle, tapenade and chorizo.. Attentive, professional service adds to the pleasant vibe. For a special event, ten guests can enjoy the privacy of The Rotisserie Table room all to themselves with windows offering a view of the rotisserie ovens for behind-the-scene intimacy. Chic but not intimidating, Rotisserie Georgette is welcome in this part of the somewhat culinarily-barren East Side offering bistro-fied comfort food at prices that won’t break the bank served in a warmly elegant setting. - Mari Gold
