Cititour Review:

Ok. So it took us a while to get to Schnäck, the Brooklyn burger joint bordering Red Hook. But after one visit I must say I'm hooked on the onion rings. More on that in a moment. First, a bit about the place itself. Schnack fits right in with the artsy community it serves. The place is a hodge podge of aging restaurant furniture and Salvation Army finds. All have seen better days from the stuffing coming out of the vinyl banquettes that look like they were stolen from the circus to the brightly colored wooden tables and chairs with the caning coming loose. And then there's the Black Label billboard covering the wall proclaiming "People Like It". And I guess they do. When we arrived the place was buzzing. And I must say the burgers are quite delicious. But I'd suggest the "quad" which is the size of a regular burger... the tiny buns are reminiscent of White Castle belly bomb size. My 6 year old son truly enjoyed his Stahl-Meyer black angus beef hot dog that had a good snap to it. And the basket of fries was enough to feed a small army. But it was the onion ring's that really had us drooling. Piles of thick laces of onion deep fried with a crispy coating and deliciously greasy. The only disappointment was a salad my wife ordered with chicken on top. I guess she wasn't expecting two legs plopped onto a bed of greens. But this really isn't a salad kind of place and we both thoroughly enjoyed our draft root beers. Overall, Schnäck lives up to its name. It's a good place for a snack!
