Modern Korean has arrived in the East Village with Soogil. Chef/Owner Soogil Lim, formerly of Hanjan and Daniel, is offering a blend of French and Korean cuisines in three categories; garden, land and sea. Dishes include Grilled Spanish Mackerel atop swiss chard-wrapped rice seasoned with ssamjang, a spicy Korean sauce; Pork Belly with mini kimchi-radish rolls, Braised Short Rib with winter vegetables; and Sweet Potato Beignets with a chilled white kimchi soup. Drinks include Korean spirits, bear and wine, along with twists on classic French cocktails with names like Gangnam Blonde and The Korean Kiss. The intimate space boasts French windows overlooking the East Village with a large communal table and additional seating at the bar. There's also a small alcove for private gatherings. See more

UPDATE: Soogil is now offering brunch. Look for Band-Sang sets with rice, kimchi, banchan and steamed egg with additions of pork belly and seafood. A sizzling bibimbap with chilled white kimchi soup, and SG Eggs Benedict with a short rib reduction and Korean sweet potato fries are also offered along with cocktails, including a Korean Pear Mimosa. Saturday’s and Sunday’s from 12pm to 3pm.
