The Wild Son in the Meatpacking District is packing lots flavors from the wild into its creative dishes and cocktails. The space, with full bar, is warm and inviting, as was our very friendly server. Small plates include things like grape leaves stuffed with faro, black rice, buckwheat and dates, along with a salad of charred kale, coconut oil and breadcrumbs. Larger plates bring mussels in a smoked trout broth, and a baked half chicken, wonderfully moist, on a bed of bitter greens. Cocktails include a Cold Brew Fizz made with house cold brewed coffee, Amontillado sherry, vanilla and angostura. Another drink, The Wild Daughter, mixes fresh watermelon with Capelletti Rosso, lemon, agave and lime oil. It's the kind of drink you dream of on a warm, sunny day.
